CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's and Women's Track and Field teams have both been named 2017 D-III All-Academic Scholar Teams of the Year as announced by the USTFCCCA.
In order to be in contention for Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA. A total of 294 teams (183 women's, 111 men's) were honored for their academics by the USTFCCCA.
The men's team finished the year with a final cumulative GPA of 3.5759, which ranks the fourth highest in Division III this season. The women's team came in with a cumulative GPA of 3.584, which puts them ranked at No. 13th in Division III.
In addition both Sagehen track and field teams earning the distinction of All-Academic Scholar Teams, a total of 11 Sagehens, four women and seven men, earned All-Academic Scholar Athletes as individuals.
Seniors Maya Weigel, Kaile Sauro, Abby Gardner and Catherine Banobi were named All-Academic Scholar Athletes for the women's team and sophomore Andy Reischling, freshman Danny Rosen, senior Parker Head, sophomore Cal Neikirk, senior Paul Messana, sophomore Julian DeGroot-Lutzner and junior Cal Aylward were named All-Academic Scholar Athletes for the men's team.
