Bruml Named West Region Rookie Of Year By

Claremont, Calif. - Freshman pitcher/first baseman Jake Bruml (San Mateo, Calif.) was named the West Region Rookie of the Year by, it was announced today.

Bruml was joined on the All-West Region first team by senior utility player James Campbell (Lookout Mountain, Tenn.), while freshman third baseman E.J. Lopez (Fresno, Calif.) and junior outfielder Nick Gentili (Glendale, Calif.) were named to the second team.

Bruml had a big freshman season on the mound and at the plate to help the Sagehens to a 25-12-1 record. He batted .323 with five homers and 31 RBI, and then on the mound, he was a perfect 7-0 with a 3.99 ERA, with 44 strikeouts in 65.1 innings of work.

Campbell ranked among the nation's leaders in home runs all season long, ending the year with 11 homers and 49 RBI to lead the Sagehens. He also batted .397 overall, while splitting time between first base, third base and designated hitter.

Gentili concluded his junior campaign with a .401 batting average, to go along with seven homers and 41 RBI. Impressively, he reached base 36 times by either a walk or hit-by-pitch (for an on-base percentage of .514), while striking out only nine times.

Lopez was part of an all-freshman infield at times this season (when Campbell was at designated hitter or injured) and batted .338 with 32 RBI on the year. He began the year at second base before settling in as the full-time third baseman early in the season.
