LA VERNE, Calif.-- The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team won both games of their double header over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent La Verne 3-2 and 8-7 in extra innings on Saturday afternoon at Ben Hines Field.
Getting the win for the Sagehens in game one was senior Cameron Yen (2-2) who went 6.2 innings gave up two runs on six hits and registered six strikeouts.
The Sagehens got ahead early as they scored two runs in the top of the first off of a triple by sophomore Bryce Rogan that brought home senior Kevin Brice and junior Kevin Jordan to give Pomona-Pitzer a 2-0 lead.
La Verne got one back in the bottom half of the inning as Ben White singled through the left side of the infield to bring home Andrew Douglas to cut the Sagehen lead down to 2-1.
White collected his second RBI of the game for La Verne as he hit an RBI single through the left side to cut the lead down to 3-2.
Senior Simon Rosenbaum came on for the Sagehens in the ninth inning and picked up his fourth save of the year as the Sagehens took game one of the double header.
Pomona-Pitzer started off game two much like game one as they scored two runs in their first at bats of the game. Junior Tanner Nishioka brought home the first run as he hit into a fielder's choice and Rosenbaum followed that up with an RBI single to give the Sagehens a 2-0 lead.
La Verne answered with two of its own in the bottom half of the first as Jakob Thomas connected on a RBI triple to right center and was later driven in on a ground ball to third to tie the game up at 2-2 after one inning of play.
The Sagehens reclaimed the lead in the third after an RBI single by Rogan made it 3-2 and scored four runs in the fourth after Brice drove in two runners with an RBI double and Rosenbaum brought home two more Sagehens on a single up the middle to extend the lead to 7-2 going into the bottom of the fourth.
The Leopards got a big inning in the bottom of the sixth as they scored four runs to cut the lead down to just a one run game at 7-6.
The Leopards went on to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth as White connected on a solo home run to right field to send the game into extra innings.
The Sagehens were able to take the lead in the top of the 11th as Omori singled home Hulse to take an 8-7 lead.
Rosenbaum stayed on to pitch late in the game and collected his first win of the season as the Sagehens took both games on the road against La Verne.
The Sagehens next host non-conference opponent Pacific (Ore.) for a three game series. The first game will be played on Thursday, March 24th at 3:00 p.m. at Alumni Field.
