WHITTIER, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Whittier 3-2 on a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth on Friday afternoon at Memorial Field.
The Poets were led by Jake Raynaud who went 2-4 with a RBI and drove in the winning run for the Poets in the bottom of the ninth.
Senior David Gerics got the start for the Sagehens as he went 8.1 innings gave up three runs on six hits with one walk and recorded eight strikeouts.
The Poets got on the board first in the ballgame as they struck in the bottom of the third inning as Lamar singled to left field to bring home two Poets as Whittier took a 2-0 lead.
The Sagehens responded in their next at-bats as Rogan hit a solo shot for his first home run of the season to cut the lead down to 2-1.
Pomona-Pitzer came back and tied the game in the top of the ninth as Nishioka singled to right field to bring home freshman Nolan McCafferty but the Poets responded in the bottom of the ninth with a RBI double to walk off at home and take game one of the three-game series.
