CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Redlands 12-4 on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens move to 22-15 overall and 12-10 in SCIAC play.
The Bulldogs jumped on the board early with a big second inning. After brining in the first runner on an RBI single up the middle, the Bulldogs loaded the bases and then cleared them with one swing of the bat to take a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second.
Redlands added to their lead in the fifth inning after a two-out RBI double pushed their lead to 6-0 but he Sagehens got that run back in the bottom of the sixth after Jeremy Jess singled home McCafferty to cut the lead to 6-1.
Redlands broke the game open late as they tacked on one more in the top of the seventh but then put another five-run inning together in the top of the eighth to push their lead to 12-1 over the Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer started to battle back in the bottom half of the eighth as Rogan hit a solo shot to center field and got one more later in the inning off of a drop ball by the right fielder to cut the lead down to 12-4.
The Bulldogs were able to go on and hold off the Sagehens in the ninth as they took game one of the three-game series.
