CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team defeated non-conference opponent Ithaca 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 8-2 overall.
The Sagehens only registered five hits but it was enough to earn the victory with first-year Adrian Banales earning the only RBI of the game.
Sophomore Ryan Long got the start for the Sagehens and put out an incredible outing as he went six scoreless innings with just one hit and struck out five batters for his third win of the season. Junior Trevor Walker came on in relief of Long and went two scoreless innings while junior Luka Green came on in the ninth for the save.
The Sagehens got the lead early on as Banales singled up the middle to bring home sophomore Jacob Patterson-Kohout to take a 1-0 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer had a scare in the top of the eighth as Ithaca had the bases loaded, but Walker was able to escape after a great defensive play by junior Jeremiah Quezada to preserve the 1-0 lead.
Green came on in the ninth and went one, two, three as the Sagehens came away with the 1-0 win.
