Thousand Oaks, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer Football team extended their winning streak to three games this season as they held on to defeat Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Cal Lutheran 31-27 on Saturday night at Rolland Stadium.

Junior running back Aseal Birir racked up 106 yards on the ground with one touchdown and sophomore quarterback Edward Sias threw for 254 yards with three touchdowns in the win for the Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer jumped out on top of the Kingsmen in the first quarter after McGee caught his first touchdown from a 10-yard pass from Sias to take a 7-0 lead.
The Kingsmen defense came up with a big interception in the second quarter and returned it down to the Pomona-Pitzer 11 yard line to set up their first score of the game but missed the extra point as the Sagehens still held a 7-6 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer came back on the ensuing drive and marched 67 yards in five plays capped off by a Sias touchdown pass to freshman Gabriel Watson to take a 14-6 lead.
The Sagehens got the ball back before half and tacked on field goal before halftime to take a 17-6 advantage going into the locker room.
Cal Lutheran came out and got on the scoreboard first in the second half after a 22-yard pass cut the lead down to 17-13.
Once again the Sagehens answered the Cal Lutheran touchdown with one of their own as Birir punched in an eight-yard touchdown run to push the lead to 24-13.
The Kingsmen faced a 4th and 10 late in the third quarter and the decision to go for it paid off as they converted and scored a 22-yard touchdown to cut the lead down to 24-19.
Cal Lutheran came all the way back and took its first lead of the game with 13:12 left in the fourth quarter after a 64-yard bomb and a good 2pt conversion gave the Kingsmen the lead at 27-24.
The Sagehens stayed poised and responded with a 47-yard touchdown pass to McGee just two plays later to reclaim the lead at 31-27.
The Pomona-Pitzer defense came up big on a huge 4th and 1 stop to stall out the Cal Lutheran offense and regain possession of the football with 6:15 left in the fourth.
The Sagehens pounded the ball through the Kingsmen defense and ran out the clock to stay on top of the SCIAC with a 3-1 overall record.
"A win against Cal Lutheran on their home field after all these years is big for us", said Head Coach Roger Caron. "I am proud of these kids and proud of this team. We are a good football team and we look forward to the next game."
