PASADENA, Calif. -- The Pomona-Pitzer men's basketball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Caltech 67-58 on Saturday night at Scott Brown Gymnasium.
Pomona-Pitzer was led by senior Gibson Farone-Collins who collected a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Caltech was led by Brent Cahill who came off the bench to lead the Beavers with 17 points. Kc Emerzie chipped in with 11 points.
Pomona-Pitzer started the first half with a small lead over the Beavers as the Sagehens quickly jumped out to a 7-2 lead.
The Sagehens went up by their largest lead of the half at 20-13 after a three-point shot by Chris Wright with 9:28 remaining.
The Beavers began to chip away at the Sagehens' lead but Farone-Collins buried a jump shot with eight seconds remaining to give Pomona-Pitzer a 29-24 advantage going into the locker room.
The Beavers came out of the locker room a different team as they quickly changed the pace of the game by opening up the second half on a 12-2 run to take a 36-31 lead over the Sagehens.
Caltech continued to build its lead in the second half as the Sagehens struggled from the field only shooting 17-49 (34.7%).
The Beavers outscored the Sagehens 43-29 in the second half as Caltech claims its fourth SCIAC win of the season.
Caltech's win over the Sagehens is its first win over Pomona-Pitzer since the late 1980's.
The Sagehens next take the court on Wednesday, January 20th as Pomona-Pitzer travels to La Verne at 7:30 p.m.
