ORANGE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball came away with their second-straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) win of the season with a 62-49 win on the road at Chapman on Thursday night.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 12-9 overall and 8-4 in conference play this season. Chapman drop to 9-12 overall and 4-8 in conference play this season.
The Sagehens were led by freshman Micah Elan who had a team-high 17 points and six rebounds in the win. Senior Mitchell Finkel tallied 10 points to go along with eight rebounds and freshman James Kelbert came off the bench with nine.
The Panthers were led by James Taylor who tallied a game-high 18 points in the loss.
Chapman got off to a hot start as they quickly jumped out to a 14-4 lead to open up the first half. The Sagehens responded with a 14-2 run to take their first lead of the first half at 18-16 after an Elan layup with 5:35 left in the first half.
Pomona-Pitzer closed out the first half with the final ten points as a low scoring first half came to a close with the Sagehens on top 28-20.
Pomona-Pitzer kept its lead over Chapman as they kept the Panthers out of striking distance throughout the second half. The Sagehens held the Panthers to under 35% from the field in the second half and forced Chapman to turn the ball over nine times.
The Sagehens were able to keep their first half lead over the Panthers as they went on to sweep the season series from the Panthers.
