REDLANDS, CA. – Micah Elan hits a new career-high with 27 points as the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Redlands 91-63 on Saturday afternoon at Currier Gym.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens break even at 10-10 overall this season and improve to 8-3 overall. The Sagehens have now won five-straight games and eight of their last nine games.
The Sagehens were led by Elan who shot lights out from the floor with a 5-7 performance from beyond the arc and also had five steals on the defensive end. Daniel Rosenbaum dropped 19 points and five rebounds and shot a highly productive 8-10 from the floor while Adam Rees shot 7-9 from the field and totaled 17 points in the win.
Redlands got on top of the Sagehens early as they quickly jumped out to an 18-9 lead after some early turnovers by the Sagehens helped the Bulldogs mount their early lead. Pomona-Pitzer battled back and eventually took the lead at 20-19 after a pair of made free-throws by Glenn Leininger. The Sagehens took off from their as they ended the half outscoring the Bulldogs 21-13 and took a 41-32 lead heading into halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer dominated the second half against the Bulldogs as they immediately came out in the second half and began to build their lead. Midway through the second half the Sagehens doubled their halftime lead and took a 20-point lead at 69-48 after a made layup by Alex Preston with 9:19 left to go.
Redlands couldn't keep up with the high-powered Sagehen offense as they put up 50 points in the second half shooting 60% from the field and 50% from three-point range. This game marks the second largest margin of victory for the Sagehens this season behind a 36-point win over Cal Lutheran earlier this month.
