Men's Basketball: Sagehens Shut Down La Verne in Lopsided Fashion

LA VERNE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball Team produced their most dominant victory of the season, defeating La Verne 89-46. Winning by 43 points, it was the Sagehens' second-most lopsided win over the Leopards in the program's history. Four different Sagehens scored in double digits, with Micah Elan leading the team with 16 points while Jack Boyle added 13 points off the bench. The Sagehens dominated the game on both ends of the floor, out-rebounding the Leopards 52 to 26, shooting 53.0% from the field, and limiting the Leopards to a 23.6% shooting percentage.

Season Impact: The Sagehens are now 11-1 overall and 3-0 in the SCIAC.

The Leopards got off to a quick start, taking a 7-4 lead in the opening minutes of the first half. However, the Sagehens responded with 10 straight points to jump to a 14-7 lead. Boyle continued another strong scoring run for the Sagehens, hitting an open three off a pass from Stephen Blomstrom as the Sagehens bench piled on the hurt. Winston Nelson and Corbin Koch hit back-to-back layups to overwhelm the Sagehens with a 22-9 lead. The Leopards tried to muster another run, scoring five straight points, but Adam Rees diffused the momentum with an open three-pointer. The Sagehens went on a 12-0 run and built a 20-point lead with 3:34 left in the half. They finished the half with a 40-22 lead.

The Sagehens didn't skip a beat in the second half, as their offense continued to put the game out of reach. With 13:04 left in the game, Elan managed to scoop a quick pass to Pavle Rohalj who rose up for the dunk to extend the lead 52-31. The dunk sparked a 9-0 run that included a three-pointer from Rosenbaum and a driving layup from Boyle as the Sagehens led 59-31. Ahead 70-39 with 5:43 left in the game, the Sagehens' defense refused to relent as they held the Leopards scoreless for three minutes while building the lead to 82-41, putting the game far out of the reach.
