VENTURA, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Golf team took sixth place at the SCIAC 1 Tournament at Olivas Links on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
The Sagehens finished with a final score of 598 in sixth place. CMS tied with La Verne for first with a score of 580, Redlands took third at 581, Cal Lutheran in fourth at 584 and Chapman finished just ahead of Pomona-Pitzer with a score of 588 while Occidental just missed the Sagehens in seventh at 599 and Whittier finished in eighth with a score of 610.
A tough round one for the Sagehens put them in a hard spot as they ended day one in eighth place with a score of 311. However, the Sagehens shot a team-low score of 287 in round two to move them up two spots on the team leaderboard into sixth.
The Sagehens were led by Sam Sawyers who led the way with a 75 in round one and a 71 in round two for a total score of 146, which landed him in a tie for ninth overall.
Conor Rooney finished as the second highest Sagehen in a tie for 20th overall. Rooney shot a 77 in round one but followed up with a 73 in round two for a score of 150.
Owen Rosebeck ended the day in a tie for 27th overall starting the tournament with an 81 in round one but finished strong with a 71 in day two for a score of 152. Just behind Rosebeck was Jack Carrigan who fished in a tie for 29th with similar scores to Rosebeck as he started with an 81 but finished with a 72 to end with a score of 153.
Pomona-Pitzer ended its top-five with Thomas Verigin who finished in 43rd overall with a 78 in round one and an 81 in round two for a score of 159.
