Men's Soccer: Sagehens Win in Pasadena

PASADENA, Calif. – Chase Abelson scored the game's lone goal and the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team came away with a 1-0 victory at Caltech Saturday afternoon.

Season Impact: With the win the Sagehens move into third place in the SCIAC with a 7-5 overall record and 6-4 in conference play.

The Beavers fall to 0-11 overall and 0-10 in the SCIAC.

The Sagehens poured in 23 shots, 11 on goal, in the game with 14 coming in the second half alone. Caltech keeper J.D. Feist did a good job holding of the Sagehens early in the game finishing with 10 saves.

Pomona-Pitzer finally found the back of the net 68 minutes into the game when Abelson scored on an assist from Peter Rentzepis. Rentzepis leads the Sagehens with five assists on the year.

The Sagehens defense and midfielders played a solid game keeping the Beavers at bay, allowing just three shots in the match. Ben Mitchell had an easy day, totalling one save for his third shutout win.

Next Game: The Sagehens host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the second edition of this year's Sixth Street Rivalry. The Stags came away with a 1-0 win against Pomona-Pitzer earlier this year. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
