CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team notched a new season-high with seven goals in a 7-0 win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Caltech on Saturday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 5-8 overall and 4-5 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens wasted no time getting the offense going as a turnover in the midfield led to Sidurdsson firing a rocket at the goal for the first score of the game just 2:46 in. Pomona-Pitzer added their second goal of the game after sophomore Peter Heckendorn launched a cross towards the outside of the box that found the head of senior Taylor Reifert to double the Sagehens lead at 2-0.
Heckendorn added another assist to his name just three minutes later as he sprung sophomore Daniel Tamkin loose who made a nice move on a defender and slotted a ball in the side netting to push the lead to 3-0 in the 11th minute.
Pomona-Pitzer added one more goal before the half after a barrage of shots at the Caltech keeper. After a save, Stein struck a ball first time to find the back of the net to extend the Sagehens' lead to 4-0 heading into halftime.
The Beavers didn't have much more luck in the second half against the Sagehens. Senior Aidan Ferrer got the scoring going again as a header by Heckendorn floated over the defense and Ferrer was able to take advantage and tap in a header of his own to get the Sagehens a 5-0 advantage.
The Sagehens netted two more goals in the game as Stein and Sigurdsson both added their second goals of the game. Stein beat the defense down the line and found the back of the net while Sigurdsson converted off of a beautiful free kick outside the box that curled around the wall leaving the keeper with no choice but to watch.
Up Next: The Sagehens will next host SCIAC opponent La Verne on Wednesday, October 10th at 4:00 p.m.
