CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Chapman 2-1 on Saturday morning at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 7-11 overall and 6-8 in SCIAC play. The Sagehens have also been eliminated from SCIAC Postseason play with the loss.
The Sagehens were led by Sigurdsson who netted the only goal for the Sagehens in the loss. Sophomore Daniel Tamkin came away with an assist.
The Sagehens came into today's game needing a win by three goals or more to at least challenge for a spot in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. They got the start they wanted as the Sagehens came out with a ton of energy on offense and found a goal just eight minutes into the match as Sigurdsson took a ball from Tamkin and snuck it by the keeper to take a 1-0 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer had a few opportunities to double its lead early but the Panthers were able to respond next with a goal in the 20th minute to tie the match at 1-1.
With the Panthers needing just a draw to advance, Chapman dropped back on defense and prevented the Sagehens from gaining any ground in the goal differential column. The Panthers were able to get a turnover that they converted into a good chance that found the back of the net to take a 2-1 lead over the Sagehens in the 82nd minute of the match.
This match marks the end of the 2018 regular season for the Sagehens
