Men's Swimming and Diving: Sagehens Win 200 Free Relay, Hui Wins 50 Free on Day 2 of SCIAC Championships

COMMERCE, CA — The No. 19 Sagehens closed day two of the 2017 SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships with a win in the 200 yard freestyle relay and the 50 yard freestyle relay.

The Sagehens hold on to the overall points lead after two days of competition.

200 Freestyle Relay

The Sagehens continued their dominance in the relay events at the SCIAC Championships meet, winning the 200 freestyle relay, their second relay win in as many days. The team of Adrian Hui, Mark Hallman, Ryan Drover, and Samuel To finished with a time of 1:22.13.

Their time was the fastest SCIAC time of the year in the event, an NCAA B-Cut mark, and one of the top-ten fastest times this year in NCAA Division III. The mark was also just one tenth of a second off the Sagehens program record, set last season.

Cal Lutheran finished second in the event with a time of 1:22.64, and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps finished in third with a mark of 1:24.21.

The Sagehens won the 200 yard medley relay yesterday with a time of 1:31.31.

50 Freestyle

Adrian Hui has been dominating the 50 freestyle all season and the SCIAC Championships meet was no different. The sophomore won the event with a time of 20.60. Hui's time sets a new program record, one that had been untouched for 16 years. The time was also the fastest time in the SCIAC this season. Hui scored an B-Cut qualifying time with his performance.

La Verne's Tim Polman took second (20.65), and Zach Zamecki of Cal Lutheran finished third (20.66).

200 IM

Samuel To finished second in the 200 yard individual medley in a close 1-2-3 finish between the Sagehens and Stags. To finished with an NCAA B-Cut qualifying time of 1:51.43, just behind Aaron Lutzker from CMS (1:51.24). The Stags' Sam Willett took third at 1:51.59.

To set the Sagehens' record in the 200 IM last season with a time of 1:50.67.

500 Free

Mark Hallman finished on the podium for Pomona-Pitzer in the 500 yard freestyle. The junior finished in third place with a time of 4:32.10, his fastest time in the event this season and an NCAA B-Cut time. Hallman currently holds the Pomona-Pitzer record in the 500 freestyle (4:28.50).

The Stags' Ben Culberson took the top spot with a time of 4:28.89, and Cal Lutheran's Benjamin Brewer finished in second place with a time of 4:29.12.

3-Meter Diving

Freshman Jake Crawford represented the Sagehens in the three-meter dive, finishing seventh in the event with a score of 250.15. Kendall Hollimon from CMS won the event, Jacob Miner from Redlands took second, and La Verne's Andrew Tompkins placed third.
