RIVERSIDE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Swimming and Diving Team impressed in their season debut, putting on several winning performances in their dual meet against Cal Baptist University. The Sagehens fell to the Lancers 187 to 107, but saw many races end with close finishes.
Freshman Paddy Baylis was the first Sagehens to take first place in an event, beating out Lancers' David Miller in the 1000-Yard Freestyle with a time of 9:45.52, defeating his Division I rival by 0.25 seconds. Gregory Havton also took first place in the 100 Butterfly, clocking in at 51.82 while his teammate Jack Montoro took second at 53.39. Over in the 200 Individual Medley, freshman Jason Lu won the event with a time of 1:55.41 while junior Liam O'Shea took second at 1:59.01. The Sagehens also won the 200 Freestyle as Lukas Ming Menkhoff, Archie Spindler, O'Shea, and Ryan Drover combined for a time of 1:27.86.
Menkhoff opened up his sophomore campaign with a close second place finish in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 57.07, falling 0.26 seconds behind Brandon Schuster of Cal Baptist. He also took second in the 100 Freestyle at 46.61 seconds. Will Abele impressed in his season debut, taking second in the 200 Butterfly at 1:55.44, less than a second behind the winner David Miller. Lu also took second in the 200 Backstroke at 1:52.84.
