CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Swim & Dive avenged last season's Sixth Street Rivalry dual meet loss, defeating Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday afternoon at Axelrood Pool 203.50 to 149.50. Several noteworthy accomplishments were reached at the meet as six different Sagehens made the NCAA B cuts in seven events and freshman Paddy Baylis made history, setting the new program record in the 1650 Yard Freestyle at 15:56.77.
Over in the 1-Meter Dives, freshmen Jem Stern and Ben Willett took first and second, respectively, and made the NCAA B Cuts, a day after making the B Cuts in the 3-Meter dives. Stern took the top spot with a score of 278.10 while Willet scored 266.95.
In the competition pool, Jason Lu made the NCAA B Cut in the 400 Individual Medley, clocking in at 4:00.05 with a first-place finish. It was the third-fastest time in Division III. He also won the 200 Backstroke at 1:50.85 while Liam O'Shea took second at 1:51.17. Lukas Ming Menkhoff made the B Cut in two different events, the 100 Breaststroke and 100 Freestyle. In the 100 Breaststroke, Menkhoff took first at 55.15, the second-fastest time in Division III this season, while his teammate Teddy Koerner took second at 57.49. Over at the 100 Freestyle, Menkhoff clocked at 44.70, recording the third-fastest time in Division III.
Baylis not only won the 1650 Freestyle with the fastest time in program history, he also made the NCAA B Cut and set the fourth-fastest time in the nation this season.
Ryan Drover took first in the 100 Butterfly and made the B Cut at 48.65.
The Sagehens won the first relay event of the day, taking first in the 200 Medley Relay as Nikhil Kundu, Menkhoff, Drover, and Nick Borowsky combined for a time of 1:31.34. Will Abele topped the 200 Freestyle at 1:42.06. He later took second in the 200 Butterfly in a close race, timing at 1:53.75, while Matthew Waddell of CMS took first at 1:52.13.
In the final event of the day, the Sagehens won the 400 Freestyle Relay as Menkhoff, Abele, Lu, and Drover combined for a time of 3:04.26.
