Men's Swim & Dive: Menkhoff Sets Two Records At Pomona-Pitzer Invite

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Swim and Dive Team hosted the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, competing against swimmers from cross-street rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a non-scoring dual meet. The meet provided the Sagehens the opportunity to improve their official times and swim outside of their usual events to prepare for the upcoming SCIAC Championship meet.

Lukas Ming Menkhoff made history at the invite, setting the Haldeman Pool record for the 50-yard Butterfly with a time of 22.36. Swimming the butterfly during the 50 Freestyle event, Menkhoff currently holds the third-fastest time in the country. Menkhoff also opted to swim the 100 Individual Medley during the 100 Freestyle and set the school and pool records as well with a time of 51.17.

Jason Lu also had a strong performance today, taking first in the 100 Backstroke at 52.03 seconds. He also won the 100 Freestyle at 48.13 seconds, just .28 seconds ahead of the next finisher, John Wills of CMS.

Will Abele battled to a first-place finish in the 200 Butterfly at 1:53.70, just 3.24 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. He also took second in the 50 Freestyle at 21.93. Over in the 200 Backstroke, Eric Garcia took the top spot at 1:57.49. He also won the finished third in the 200 IM at 2:00.61, right behind Liam O'Shea. O'Shea took a close second in the race at 1:57.12, just .04 seconds behind the winner Jackson Crewe of CMS.

Up Next: The divers will compete again at the SCIAC Dive Championship hosted at Haldeman Pool on Saturday, February 16 and Sunday, February 17. The swimmers will race at the SCIAC Swim Championship from Thursday, February 21st to Sunday, February 24th in Commerca, California.
