Sagehen Tennis Teams Run 10K For Charity

Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Men's and Women's Tennis teams competed in the Manhattan Beach 10K this past Saturday, with all proceeds going to charity.

The tennis teams were inspired to compete in this event and to raise money for charity by Erin Noble, a 2007 Pomona grad and tennis alumnus who died this past summer. This season's tennis team shirts (pictured) serve to honor Erin's memory and to remember to live each day with passion and integrity.

The teams were able to raise almost $1,500 for College Match, an organization started by the father (Harley Frankel) of an alumnus (David Frankel, Pomona '04). They were able to raise all of the funds through alumni donations.

College Match identifies low-income high school sophomores with strong academic records and provide each of them (on an individualized basis) an intensive array of services comparable to what affluent students receive at elite private schools.

These students and their families are receiving the counseling and support to make them competitive in the college application process. Relationships are being established with a select number of institutions that value diversity and simply don't have the networks to reach out and find these qualified students.
