Men's Tennis: No. 9 Sagehens Get Win in Washington

Walla Walla, WA – The No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team headed to the Northwest to face two top-25 teams in their first competition of the spring, beating No. 20 Gustavus Adolphus College and falling to No. 24 Whitman.

Doubles

The Sagehens took home all three wins in the double portion of the match. Spencer Simonides and Graham Maassen combined to with 8-5 in the No. 1 match. Antony Bello and Avery Bicks won a tight match 9-8 in the No. 3 match. 

Josh Gearou and Sam Gearou won the No. 2 doubles match 9-7.

Singles

Marko Mandic scored a win for the Sagehen in the No. 1 match, finishing with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Josh Kim went three sets in his match, winning 2-6, 6-0, 7-5.

Sam Malech won his match 6-4, 6-2, and Josh Gearou defeated his opponent 6-4, 6-4.

No. 24 Whitman 6, No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer 3

Doubles

Maassen and Simonides had the closest doubles match in the No. 3 slot but fell to the Blues 9-7.

Singles

The Sagehens scored three wins in the singles portion of the dual match with Jake Yasgoor, Mandic, and Josh Gearou each earning wins.

Yasgoor won his match in three sets, defeating his opponent 1-6, 6-4, 7-5. Mandic won 7-6, 6-3 in his match and Gearou bested Whitman's Gary Ho 7-5, 6-4.

Season Impact: The Sagehens begin the season 1-1.
