Men's Tennis: Sagehens Cruise Past Christopher Newport

CLAREMONT, CA — The No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team split their matches on Saturday, beating Christopher Newport and falling to No. 18 Redlands. 

Season Impact: Pomona-Pitzer moves to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in SCIAC play.

No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer 8, Christopher Newport 1

Doubles 

Jake Yasgoor and Graham Maassen took down their opponents in the No. 2 doubles match 8-3. Kalyan Chadalavada and Avery Bicks followed it up with a 8-5 win in the No. 3 match.

Spencer Simonides and Antony Bello fell in the No. 1 slot 8-6.

Singles

The Sagehens rolled in the singles portion of the competition, going a perfect 6-0. Jake Yasgoor led things off in the No. 1 slot winning 6-3, 6-1. Maassen followed up his doubles win with a 6-4, 7-6 victory in the No. 2 match.

Josh Kim kept things moving with a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 3, and Marko Mandic won 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 slot.

Josh Gearou scored a 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 5 match, and Simonides won in three sets 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6

Doubles

The Sagehens scored two wins in the doubles portion of the competition to take the early advantage in the match. Simonides and Bello bested Joey Dulle and Jake Ly 8-4 in the No. 1 match.

Maassen and Jake Yasgoor did their part winning 8-4 in the No. 2 match. Bicks and Chadalavada dropped their match 8-6.

Singles

Yasgoor kept on winning in the singles portion of the competition, beating Chase Lipsomb 6-1, 6-0. Josh Gearou won in the No. 6 slot beating Avery Davis 6-2, 6-0.

But the Bulldogs were able to scores wins at the No. 2-5 matches to take the win.
