Men's Tennis: Sagehens Defeat Chapman 5-0 In Round One Of SCIAC Championships

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Chapman University 5-0 in round one of the SCIAC Championships on Friday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

The No. 3 seeded Sagehens made quick work of the No. 6 seeded Panthers as they swept doubles play to open up the match.

Antony Bello and Spencer Simonides got the Sagehens on the board as they took a win in the No. 1 doubles match by the score of 8-3.

Jake Yasgoor and Graham Maassen followed up with an 8-3 win at the No. 2 doubles spot and Avery Bicks and Marko Mandic finished off doubles with an 8-5 win at the No. 3 spot.

After taking a 3-0 lead, the Sagehens only needed two more wins to put away the Panthers. The first of which came as Josh Gearou won at the No. 5 singles match as he swept his opponent, 6-0, 6-0.

The Sagehens clinched the match at the No. 2 singles line as Bello went on to defeat his opponent 6-3, 6-2 as the  Sagehens coasted to a 5-0 win in round one.

Up Next: The Sagehens advance to the Semifinals of the SCIAC Championships where they will face off against Redlands University at the Pauley Tennis Complex at 9:00 a.m.
