La Jolla, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis Program gained some valuable playing experience at the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships in La Jolla, California this past weekend, as every member of the team got into pairs and competed in a knockout tournament against the top doubles pairs in California. Octave Bellet and Avery Bicks reached the furthest point among the Sagehens, reaching the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket before falling 6-1 and 6-2.
Bellet and Bicks opened up their tournament with an 8-3 loss to Thomas Dodson and Tyler Roth of Villanova in the first round, but bounced back in the 3rd round of consolation with an 8-5 victory over Michael Czonkla and Stefan Suarez of Villanova. The two followed up in the fourth round with a big 6-2 and 6-4 two set sweep over Marc Isaia and Sreeganesh Manoharan of UC San Diego to advance to the quarterfinal round.
Jed Kronenberg and Kalyan Chadalavada were the second-highest finishers among the Sagehens. They opened their run with an opening round loss to Can Kaya and Dominic Barretto from UC Berkeley, but came through with a tight 9-8 and 7-6 (6) victory over Markus Nordby and Sean Mullins of Boston College in the third round. They fell in the fourth round to Mason Hansen and Luca Marquard of UC Irvine.
