CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 14 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team got off to a hot start in doubles, edging the No. 11 Williams College Eph 2-1, but fell in the singles round for a 6-3 defeat.
Season Impact: The Sagehens currently hold a 10-5 record overall.
Octave Bellet and Kalyan Chadalavada have proved to be a right pairing thus far, having squeezed through a tight 8-7 (5) victory in no. 1 doubles over Brian Grodecki and Austin Barr. Avery Bicks and Marko Mandic took down Alex Taylor and Calvin Chung 8-7 (5) as well in no. 2 doubles, but Jed Kronenberg and Quinn Hirsohn dropped their no. 3 doubles match to Jordan Sadowsky and Arturo Kam 8-5.
In singles, Kronenberg continued his singles victory streak, winning nine singles matches in the row with a no. 1 victory over Grodecki 6-4 and 6-3. However, Octave Bellet and Sam Malech saw their streak in singles come to a close. Bellet saw his personal record fall to 9-4 after losing in three sets to Barr (4-6, 6-1, 7-5) in no. 2. Malech's record went to 10-3 after dropping his no. 5 singles match to Alex Taylor in a pair of 6-2 sets. Josh Gearou fell in a pair of 6-3 sets in no. 3 and Mandic lost 6-2, 6-2 in no. 4. Schoenherr battled it out in no. 6, winning his first set 6-4. However, his opponent, Kam, came back with a tight 7-6 (5) set and a 6-3 win to close it out.
