CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis Team took a tough 9-0 loss to No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Thursday night. Despite several close battles in singles, the Sagehens could not muster a comeback against the Stags.
Season Impact: The Sagehens fall to a 13-8 record overall and are 4-1 in the SCIAC.
Octave Bellet and Avery Bicks fell 8-3 in no. 1 doubles to Julian Gordy and Nikolai Parodi. Over in no. 2 doubles, Jed Kronenberg and Kalyan Chadalavada lost 8-3 to Oscar Burney and Jack Katzman, and in no. 3 Josh Gearou and Marko Mandic dropped their match to Robert Liu and Jake Williams 8-2.
In singles, Kronenberg engaged in a close battle with Parodi in the no. 1, but fell to a pair of 7-5 sets. Bellet came close in the first set of no. 2 singles against Katzman, falling 7-5, but lose the second set 6-1. Burney took no. 3 over Gearou 6-1 and 6-2 while Marko Mandic struggled against Julian Gordy, losing 6-4 and 6-1 in no. 4. Sam Malech took Avinash Vemuri to three sets, dropping the first one 6-3, but coming back with a 6-1 win in the second set. In the final tiebreaker, Malech couldn't come back, losing 10-2 in the tiebreaker. Jacob Schoenherr lost to Robert Liu in no. 6 singles in a three-set thriller. Schoenherr took down Liu 6-1 in the first set, but lost the second 6-1. In the final set, Liu prevailed 10-7.
