CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis Team bounced back from their loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with a sweeping 9-0 victory over Chapman University.
Season Impact: The Sagehens now boast a 14-8 record overall and 5-1 in the SCIAC.
Octave Bellet and Kalyan Chadalavada kicked off doubles with an 8-2 victory over Len Kamemoto and Matthew Mead in no. 1 doubles. In no. 3 doubles, Jack Bernstein and Ryan Lewis paired for the first time this season and impressed with a 8-1 win over Igor Belineli and Grant Stankaitis. Avery Bicks and Sam Malech battled in no. 2 doubles, edging out to an 8-5 win over Jacob and Darrus Lee.
Quinn Hirsohn jumped to a pair of 6-0 set victories in no. 5 singles over Darrus Lee to give the Sagehens a 4-0 lead. Ryan Lewis quickly won no. 4 singles over Rasmus Helms 6-0 and 6-1 and Sam Gearou took down Belineli in no. 5 singles with a 6-0 and 6-1 win. Marko Mandic moved up to no. 2 singles and did not disappoint, taking down Kamemoto 6-3 and 6-1. Joey Schwartz won his no. 6 singles match over Terry Kang 6-1 and 6-3. Over in no. 1, Octave Bellet battled three tough sets with Jacob Lee, dropping the first set 7-6 (5), but coming back 6-2 and 10-3 to clinch the sweep.
