Ojai, CA. – Jed Kronenberg and Joshua Gearou represented the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team well at the Ojai Invitational on Friday afternoon, putting on exceptional performances in singles and doubles.
No. 2 Kronenberg secured a spot in the quarterfinal for singles after winning his first two matches of the tournament. He first took down Nathan Saragoza of Linfield College in the first round 6-1 and 6-2 and followed up with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 victory over Gordon Barrows of Lewis & Clark University. His singles record improved to 23-5 after the first day.
Gearou won his opening round in singles, taking down Dara Kashani of Cal Lutheran in a three-set thriller. He won the first set 6-4 but dropped the second 3-6. He came back with a convincing 6-2 win to advance to the round of 16. In the next match, he faced No. 1 Nikola Parodi for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and played out another gritty three-set affair. After losing the first set 7-5, Gearou came back in the second 6-4, but got swept 6-0 in the final set. His singles record now stands at 15-10 this season.
In the opening round of doubles, Kronenberg and Gearou took down Benjamin McNair and Luis Rojas of Linfield 8-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.
The pair will play again tomorrow for the second day of the Ojai Invational at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club.
