CLAREMONT, CA. – After three intense competitive days at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association West Regional Tournament, the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis Team came away as one of the best-performing programs during the weekend. Sophomore Jack Bernstein was named champion in the Pool B singles bracket while Joshua Gearou and Jed Kronenberg of the both finished in the semifinals in the Pool A singles bracket and ended in the quarterfinals together in Pool A doubles.
"I was very happy with the performance of our team," said Head Coach Steve Bickham. "I felt Josh stepped his game up to a new level by getting to the semi-finals and even though Jed didn't win the event like we had hoped, he played very well and lost to the eventual champion who simply had a great weekend!"
"Jack Bernstein had a great tournament winning five matches and the B division title which is a great result, and all of our freshmen had solid performances as well! Overall I left the tournament with a positive outlook going into our season. I think great things lie ahead for this Sagehen team!"
Kronenberg looked to follow up from an impressive freshman campaign in which he finished in the quarterfinal of the NCAA Tournament, taking down Yahn Gawrit in the first round with a pair of 6-3 sets. He followed up by taking down Jake Williams of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 6-2 and 6-1. In the third round, he faced another Stag, Nic Meister, and battled to a 6-2 and 6-3 victory.
