CLEVELAND, OH. -- The No. 12 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis team defeated No. 8 Gustavus Adolphus 5-4 in match three of the ITA Indoor National Championship on Friday afternoon.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 4-2 overall
The Sagehens fell behind during the doubles competition as Pomona-Pitzer could only grab one win out of the three matches. Gustavus Adolphus came out and won the first two doubles matches as Josh Gearou and Octave Bellet fell 8-4 at No. 1 doules followed by a loss at the No. 2 match as Jed Kronenberg and Jansen Comadena also fell 8-4. The Sagehens earned a point at the No. 3 match as the team of Avery Bicks and Charlie Stark edged out an 8-7 victory heading into singles.
Pomona-Pitzer came fighting back during the singles matches starting with a big win at the No. 6 spot as Quinn Hirsohn won in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 to tie the match at 2-2. Gustavus Adolphus came back with a win at No. 5 singles but Kronenberg evened up the score again after a win at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-4.
Sam Gearou gave the Sagehens the lead after a hard-fought three-set win at no. 4 singles by the scores of 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 followed by the clinch by his brother Josh Gearou who sealed the win for the Sagehens at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 7-5.
