CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis Team took third place at the Stag-Hen Invitational in convincing manner, dominating Sewanee University 9-0 on Saturday afternoon. After a close round in doubles where two matches ended at close margins, the Sagehens controlled the singles round to clinch the match.
Octave Bellet de Giacomoni and Josh Gearou battled to an 8-6 win in No. 1 doubles over Jordan Brewer and Jack Gray. In No. 2 doubles, Avery Bicks and Charlie Stark edged out Brandon Kali and Jack Metzger 8-7. Jed Kronenberg and Nils Skattum took no. 3 doubles over Hayden Loeb and Aubrey Davis.
Kronenberg dominated his no. 1 singles match against Andres Carro with a pair of 6-2 sets. Octave Bellet followed with a 6-2 and 6-1 win over Brewer in no. 2 while Sam Gearou took no. 4 over Kali 6-4 and 6-3. Quinn Hirsohn dominated his first set in no. 5 singles over Ryan Olps 6-0, but managed to fend him in the second set 7-5. Jacob Schoenherr won no. 6 singles over Metzger 7-6 and 6-2, and Josh Gearou battled through a 3-set thriller against Jack Gray in no. 2 singles, winning the first set 6-3 before dropping the second 6-4. He came back in the final tiebreaker 10-8.
