Sagehens Set New Distance Relay Record At Oxy Meet

LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's track and field program triumphed at the Occidental Dual Meet on Saturday, prevailing in the Battle of the Banner 94-41. The Sagehens won 11 events while Cal Neikirk swept through the hurdle events and won the high jump. Ethan Hardacre also won two events, excelling in the long and triple jump while the Sagehens 4x1600 meter relay team broke the meet record.

"Today was a great way to kick off the track and field season for the Sagehens," said Head Coach Jordan Carpenter. "Today was all about taking what we have been working on in practice to a meet setting and getting back into competition mode. This is a fun meet for the guys that has some unique events for the team to compete in."

Faraaz Rashidi took the top in the 100 meter dash, clocking in at 11.30, while Ryan Abele followed right behind him at 11.50. Alexander Bartone impressed in his collegiate debut, winning the 400 meter dash at 50.80. The Sagehens showed off their endurance in the distance events as Andy Reischling won the 3000 meter run at 8:47.66. He later helped the 4x1600 meter relay team alongside Peter Davis, Julian Degroot-Lutzner, and Owen Woo take first at 17:42.67, setting the meet record.

"The 4x1600 relay was a target we had going into this meet," said Carpenter. "The four members of the team has already all run another event earlier in the meet so we thought we could still get the record on tired legs. The guys ran hard and were able to break the previous record by over 20 seconds. It was a great way to kick off the year. Hopefully we will see a few more records fall in the coming weeks."

The Sagehens followed with a win in the distance medley, as Daniel Hill, Bukuru Anaclet, Carter Floyd, and Reischling combined for a time of 10:26.82.

Neikirk won out the 110 meter hurdles at 15.33 and later topped the 300 meter hurdles at 39.87. He closed out his meet day with first place in the high jump at 1.88 meters. Hardacre shined in the long jump, winning at 6.63m, and taking the triple jump at 13.89m.

The Sagehens won three of the four throwing events as Samuel Khasnavis won the shot put after tossing 11.60m. Theodore Bazakas won the discus throw at 37.92m and Calvin Aylward took the javelin throw at 54.26m.
