CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Track & Field Team had a stellar debut to the conference season, winning their dual matchups in the 5-Way Track & Field meet with Whittier College, Occidental College, Chapman University, and Caltech. The Sagehens defeated Whittier 112-51 and Caltech 125-20.
"Today was a great start to our conference schedule," said Head Coach Jordan Carpenter. "The goal on the day was to pick up two dual wins and start the season 2-0, which we were able to get done. The focus wasn't on getting marks or setting fast times, but we still saw a number of great performances today on our way to the team victory."
Daniel Tamkin did his best to burst through the short-distance events, taking third in the 100 Meter Dash at 11.32 seconds and second in the 200 Meter at 23.09. Dylan Madden placed third in the 400 Meter at 52.22.
In the distance events, the Sagehens showcased their depth of talent, with Carter Floyd winning the 800 Meter Run at 1:54.03 while Ian Emlet took second at 1:59.58. Kellen Browning took fifth at 2:01.22. In the 1500 Meter, Julian DeGroot-Lutzner placed second with a time of 4:05.94 and Dante Paszkeicz took sixth at 4:17.34. Joseph Hesse-Withbroe took eighth at 4:18.18. Liam Jones placed second in the 5000 Meter at 15:53.76 while Edmund Havener followed in third at 16:21.23.
In the final distance event, the 3000 Meter Steeplechase, the Sagehens dominated from one through four as Dante Paszkeicz placed first at 9:36.34 while Hesse-Withbroe took second at 9:59.66. Owen Keiser placed third at 10:12.94 and Oliver Chang took fourth at 10:20.75.
Over in the field events, Evan Johnson won the Pole Vault with a mark of 13-0.25 (3.97m) and took third in the High Jump at 5-7 (1.70m). Ethan Hardacre took second in the Long Jump at 19-9.5 (6.03m) and later won the Triple Jump at 41-8.75 (12.72m). Johnson tied for third in the Triple Jump at 38-4.75 (11.70m) while Neel Karody took fifth at 38-1.25 (11.61m).
At the throws, Theodore Bazakas placed second at 39-5 (12.01m) while his teammate Warren Hosseinion took third at 38-8.25 (11.79m). The Sagehens swept the top-three in the Discus as Samuel Khasnavis won at 120-6 (36.72m). Bazakas took second at 119-8 (36.47m) and Hosseinion placed third at 112-8 (34.34m). Hosseinion later finished third in the Hammer at 113-10 (34.70m). Nathan Gallatin won the Javelin at 147-3 (44.88m) while Johnson took third at 120-6 (36.74m).
