Pomona-Pitzer Men's Cross Country/Track and Field Recruiting Page

Dear Student-Athlete,

Thank you for taking a look at the Pomona-Pitzer Cross Country and Track & Field programs. The Pomona-Pitzer running programs have a tradition of success at the conference and national levels. With 12 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships in cross country and 12 titles on the track; we have positioned ourselves as one of the premier programs in the SCIAC.

On the national level, we can proudly say that we have produced more than 100 NCAA All-Americans. Our Cross Country team has made 14 NCAA appearances; and with 20 NCAA appearances the Track & Field team has been well represented on the national scene. In total, Pomona-Pitzer XC and TF athletes have earned an impressive 19 NCAA national championships.

The coaching staff and I come to work each day with the goal of advancing the program. We recognize that moving the program forward requires two important steps. Step I: As a coaching staff we must do our part by staying current in the sport, designing innovative training programs, and motivating our student-athletes to reach new heights with respect to their fitness, technique and of course their level of performance. Step II: Recruiting talented student-athletes who are focused, goal-oriented and enjoy working in a team environment. When these two steps are achieved—the sky is the limit!

I am confident that the Pomona-Pitzer Cross Country and/or Track & Field program will provide you with training, motivation, and resources required to accomplish your competitive goals. If our program sounds like a good fit for you, I strongly encourage you to start the recruiting process by completing our online questionnaire. Doing so will help the coaching staff and I determine whether you would be a good academic and/or athletic match for the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.

Please contact me directly if you would like to learn more about our running program. I look forward to getting to know you better and working with you throughout the recruiting process.

Sincerely,

Coach Carpenter
Men’s Cross Country/Track & Field Coach

Pomona-Pitzer Cross Country/Track and Field Official Visit Days (2018)
The Pomona-Pitzer Men’s Cross Country/Track & Field Teams will be hosting two recruit visit days in the fall of 2018.  These special days have been set aside to showcase the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges as well as our dynamic athletic program. IMPORTANT:  These events are reserved for recruited athletes and thus are by invitational only.
Visit Day 1: Sept. 20-22
Visit Day 2: Oct. 18-20

Once you register for one of the visit days a member of the XC/TF coaching staff will be able to further customize your itinerary. Frequently asked questions are below:

Q:  Who should attend?
A:  While open to all prospective men’s cross country/track and field athletes; this visit day is geared toward those top athletes who are considering applying early decision to either Pomona or Pitzer College (Early Decision-I or Early Decision II).

Q:  How do I register to attend?
A:  If you are interested in attending the Men’s Cross Country/Track and Field Recruit Visit Day you must complete and return the registration form.  Once the form is submitted, a member of the coaching staff will contact you directly.

Q: How do I get to campus?
A: We recommend flying into Ontario International Airport (ONT), which is less crowded than Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and much closer to campus. Ontario is served by most major airlines and all major car rental agencies. If you anticipate that you will need transportation from the airport, a member of the coaching staff may be able assist you. You may also commute to campus by rail.  The Los Angeles area Metrolink serves the city of Claremont with a station two blocks from the campus. Take the San Bernardino line east from Downtown Los Angeles, or west from San Bernardino.

*Please note that it will be your responsibility to arrange transportation to and from campus.  The college will not cover the expenses associated with flights or other such transportation to campus.

Q:  Where will I stay once on campus?
A:  You will be assigned a student host from either the Pomona or Pitzer College campus (depending on which school you are most interested in attending). You host will me a current member of the Pomona-Pitzer Cross Country and/or Pomona-Pitzer Track & Field team.

Q:  Should I bring extra spending money?
A:  That’s up to you.  We will take care of housing and all meals during your time on campus (free of charge). If you would like to purchase items from the college book store (i.e. sweater or t-shirts), then you should definitely bring extra spending money.

Q:  My parents will be traveling with me—where should they stay?
A:  Please follow this link for a list of local accommodations: http://pomona.edu/about/visiting/local-accommodations.aspx

Q:  Can I practice with the team?
A:  Per NCAA Division III rules, prospective student-athletes are not allowed to participate in practice sessions. Further, “tryouts” and/or testing are not permitted.  However, since we want you to get a true sense of what it is like to be a student-athlete at Pomona-Pitzer, you will be allowed to attend and observe practice sessions.
