Five Men's Water Polo Players Honored By SCIAC

Claremont, Calif. - Juniors Jason Cox (Arnold, Md.), Mark Hudnall (Los Altos, Calif.) and Cody Moore (San Dimas, Calif. - pictured) were named first-team All-SCIAC Men's Water Polo team, while Stephen Vint (El Cajon, Calif.) was named the league's Freshman of the Year, it was announced today.

Senior goalie Kyle Pokorny (Escondido, Calif.) was also honored by the SCIAC, earning second-team honors.

Hudnall added the SCIAC honor to his second-team All-Western Water Polo Association selection, while Vint was a member of the WWPA All-Rookie team. Hudnall was a second-team All-SCIAC selection last year, while Cox, Moore and Pokorny were honored by the league for the first time.

The five players helped the Sagehens earn the SCIAC championship this fall with a 9-1 conference record, including a 7-4 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the decisive championship match. Pomona-Pitzer was 15-20 overall, with 16 losses coming to teams ranked in the top 15 in the nation.

The Sagehens look to have a strong 2012 season next year with Cox, Hudnall and Moore all back for their senior seasons. Pomona-Pitzer loses only two seniors - Pokorny and Jaron Moler (Carmichael, Calif.), who capped off his career by scoring the game-winning goal in the SCIAC championship game and earning a spot on the WWPA All-Tournament team.
