CLAREMONT, CA. –The No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo defeated Occidental 21-7 on Wednesday afternoon at Taylor Pool.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 5-8 overall and 3-1 in conference play while Occidental drops to 0-14 on the year and 0-5 in conference play.
The Sagehens were led by Maxwell Bethel who had a game-high four goals in the win. Four other Sagehens tallied hat-tricks as Keegan Coleman, Sam Gorcey-Biblowitz, Noah Sasaki and Dylan Elliot each had three goals. James Kelbert picked up the win in goal as he tallied 14 saves and three steals in the win.
Pomona-Pitzer wasted no time jumping out to a big lead against the Tigers as they netted seven goals in the first period and shutout Occidental to take a 7-0 lead heading into the second. The Sagehens added three more goals in the second while the Tigers could only find the net once in the first half as the Sagehens led 10-1 at halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer came back to outscore the Tigers 7-4 in the third period and the Sagehens netted six goals in the fourth as they cruised to a 23-7 win over Occidental.
Up Next: The Sagehens will next host the Gary Troyer Tournament on Friday and Saturday October 6th and 7th as they will face Fresno Pacific and Air Force on Friday and McKendree and Navy on Saturday.
