CLAREMONT, Ca. – The No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent La Verne 11-9 on Wednesday afternoon at Haldeman Pool
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 10-8 overall and 4-1 in SCIAC play this season.
The Sagehens were led by Cade Curry who tallied a hat-trick with three goals in the win. Dylan Elliott, Joseph Schafer, and Adam Gross each netted two goals as well while Riley Mangan and Zach Senator chipped in with one. Daniel Diemer earned the win as he improved to 4-1 on the year against conference opponents and stopped five balls and had one steal in the win.
La Verne and Pomona-Pitzer traded goals to open up the first period until the Sagehens netted three-straight goals from Curry, Senator and Mangan to take a 4-2 lead with 1:39 left in the first. The Leopards ended the first with a goal and started the second with a goal to even the score at 4-4 but the Sagehens scored five of the next six goals to take a 9-5 lead with 5:20 left in the third.
The Sagehens and Leopards played even with each other in the second half as each team scored two goals in the third and two in the fourth but the two-point advantage the Sagehens built in the first half proved to be the difference as Pomona-Pitzer earned its fourth-straight SCIAC win of the season.
Up Next: The Sagehens will next travel to the Harvard Tournament on Saturday, October 14th where they will face off against Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Brown and MIT.
