THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team improved to 3-0 in conference play with their 14-7 win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Cal Lutheran on Saturday morning at the Samuelson Aquatics Center.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
The Sagehens were led by Sam Gorcey-Biblowitz who notched his first hat-trick of the season with three goals in the win. Joseph Schafer, Jacob Niskey and Adam Ward all also had multi-goal games with two each.
The Sagehens got off to a great start against the Kingsmen as they netted five goals in the first period while not allowing a single goal. The Sasaki brothers connected for the first goal of the game with Noah assisting Sam for the goal then Sam Sasaki came back to assist Niskey to give the Sagehens an early 2-0 lead. Timothy Mangan and Dylan Elliott added goals as well with Gorcey-Biblowitz adding a five-meter penalty to close out the period with a 5-0 lead.
The Sagehens continued their dominance in the second period as they opened up the game with eight-straight goals as Schafer and Maxwell Bethel joined in on the goal streak before the Kingsmen scored their first and only goal of the first half with 13 seconds remaining to head into halftime facing an 8-1 deficit.
Cal Lutheran came out in the second half and won the third period as they outscored the Sagehens 5-3. Ward, Keegan Coleman and Niskey all found the back of the net in the third as the Sagehens still held a solid 11-6 lead.
Ward opened up the scoring in the fourth with a goal but the Kingsmen responded immediately after to bring the score to 12-7. Pomona-Pitzer added two more goal to its total to insure the victory as Gorcey-Biblowitz closed the game out with two unanswered goals as the Sagehens went on to earn their sixth win of the season and remained perfect in conference play.
