Despite a solid effort, the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehen's come-from-behind rallies were not enough Saturday, as they fell twice to the Lions of Patten University, 4-3 and 6-4.
In the first game Patten got on the board quickly scoring an unearned run in the first inning when Christian Rountree hit an infield single to drive in Samantha Medeiros. Then in the third inning Patten broke the game open with four more runs. Nicole Scott and Janessa Gonzalez both walked scoring two unearned runs for the Lions. Scott and Rountree then scored on a Sagehen error to put Patten up 5-0. The Sagehens fought back in the third when freshman Brianna Marcantoni hit a double to left field scoring Alexis Garcia. P-P put three more runs on the board in the fourth when Christine Calderon scored on an error. Garcia and Leanna Guillermo then hit back-to-back doubles scoring Jamie Goldberg and Garcia. However, the Lions scored once more in the seventh and the Sagehens were unable to close the gap, losing 4-6.
Patten scored first again in the second game on a homerun by
Valorie Miller in the first inning and put two more runs on the
board in the second, putting them up 3-0. However, P-P came back in
the third when Arianna Roach scored on an error and then Emily
Aamodt stole home on a throw down to second base. Neither team
seemed to be able to put another run on the board until Patten
scored on a hit by pitch in the seventh. The Sagehens rallied in
the bottom of the seventh when Aamodt scored on a ground ball by
Allison Ritter. Yet it wasn’t enough and the Sagehens fell
The Sagehens had five hits in the first game and four hits in the second game, while the Lions recorded five hits in the first game and eight in the second game.
