LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team split its road double header against Occidental with a 6-5 loss and an 8-0 win.
The Tigers got ahead early in the bottom of the first as Cora Roberts doubled to left field to drive in two runs to give Occidental a 2-0 lead.
Occidental went on to retake the lead in the bottom of the fourth as Mariah Montgomery drove in two Tigers with a single to left center. The Tigers got one more in the inning as Natalie Glover drove in another run.
The Tigers added one more in the fifth with an RBI double to stretch their lead to 6-2.
The Sagehens had a big seventh inning as Bianca Cockrell came up and blasted a three-run home run to bring the Sagehens within one run. Pomona-Pitzer couldn't restart the rally after the Cockrell home run and fell to the Tigers by one run in the first game of the double header.
The Sagehens kept the bats hot in the second game as they posted six runs in the first inning. Yee came home to score on a passed ball, Ireland drove in Cockrell on a fielder's choice and then Sam Carlson cleared the bases with a huge grand slam to cap off the first inning for the Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer added one more in the next inning as Cockrell hit her second home run of the day, this time a solo shot to give the Sagehens a 7-0 lead.
Kelsey Buchanan scored the final run of the day as she singled to center field to score Yee and the Sagehens went on to run rule the Tigers in five innings.
Pomona-Pitzer next takes the field as they host a double header against La Verne on Saturday, February 27th starting at 12:00 p.m. at Wig Beach Field.
