Softball: Sagehens Drop Both Games To Emory

ATLANTA, GA – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team fell in both games of their double header to Emory by the scores of 9-1 and 9-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Emory Softball Field.

Brittany File took the mound for Emory in game one as she tallied her 16th win of the season and only surrendered three hits and one run against the Sagehens in three innings pitched.

Emory had a big inning to start the game as they tallied six runs in the first innign off of a RBI double, a RBI single and a three run homer to take a 6-0 lead.

Emory added two more in the bottom of the second with back-to-back RBI singles to take an 8-0 lead heading into the third inning.

Pomona-Pitzer got on the scoreboard in the top of the third as senior Paige Oliver singled up the middle to bring home sophomore Missy Pekarek to cut the lead down to 8-1.

The Eagles tallied one more to their total in the bottom of the fifth as they scored on an RBI single to left field to end the game 9-1 in five innings.  

The Sagehens started out on top in game two as they struck first in the first inning as sophomore Natalie Ireland singled up the middle to bring home junior Sofia Baig to give Pomona-Pitzer an early 1-0 lead.

Emory responded as they executed a double steal in the bottom of the second that brought home a run to tie the game up at 1-1 going into the third.

The Sagehens reclaimed the lead in the third as Oliver hit an RBI single to left center that scored freshman Michelle Fowler to give them a 2-1 lead.

Emory took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the third with a double to left center that brought home two Eagles and took over the game in the bottom of the fourth as they scored six runs in the inning to take a 9-2 lead heading into the fifth.

Pomona-Pitzer added one more in the top of the seventh with a RBI single by Pekarek but the Sagehens could not come back against Emory as they dropped both games of the double header.

The Sagehens will stay in Georgia as they next travel to Piedmont on Thursday, March 17th with a double header starting at 10:00 a.m.
