CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Softball program earned it's first SCIAC sweep on Saturday afternoon, beating Whittier College 5-3 and 5-2, respectively. Liz Rodarte hit two home runs during the doubleheader and leads the SCIAC with six dingers while the Sagehens offense capitalized on huge run-scoring opportunities to swing the tides in their favor.
Season Impact: The Sagehens improve to an 8-3-1 record overall and 5-2-1 in the SCIAC. They currently place in second in the SCIAC.

Liz Rodarte continued where she left off, throwing a complete game victory over the Poets and fanning four batters while the defense outlasted the wet conditions and played spectacular defense. Rodarte also had a solid display at the plate, crushing her fifth home run of the season and going 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs. Makensey Druckman also produced at the plate, launching a two-run home run.
The middle infield flashed its leather in the first inning to support Rodarte, as second baseman Kristin Hong turned a double play to first while and Izzy Deatherage gobbled a grounder to hold the Poets scoreless.
The Sagehens struck in the bottom of the second when Druckman followed Deatherage's lead-off double with a towering shot over the left field fence to take a 2-0 lead.
The Poets responded in the top of the third inning as Hannah Angileri hit a two-run home run over the right center fence to tie the game. However, Rodarte maintained her composure and retired the next two batters to keep the game tied. In the bottom of the same inning, Rodarte got her revenge with a towering two-run blast to take back the lead 4-2.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Rodarte hit a RBI double to deep right center to score Olivia Campion from second to add an insurance run.
In the top of the seventh, the Poets tried to comeback, hitting a solo home run, but the Hens held on to secure the 5-3 victory.

Alondra Reynoso matched up Rodarte's outing with a complete game victory to secure the sweep, throwing five strikeouts and surrendering only two runs for her third win of the season. Rodarte went 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs, while Makensey Druckman went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
The Hens took the early lead in the bottom of the second inning, when Rodarte crushed a solo shot over right field to take a 1-0 lead. The home run was Rodarte's sixth of the season, putting her in the top of the SCIAC.
Later in the top of the fourth with one out, Whittier tied the game when Marialena Ahern hit a tower over right center to make it 1-1. However, in the bottom of the fourth, the Hens struck back. With bases loaded and one out, Natalie Ireland lined a single to center field to score Olivia Campion from third to take a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Hens tacked more runs for insurance. With runners at the corners and one out, Rodarte hit a single through the left side to make it 3-1. Later with two outs, Druckman battled through a full count and laced a double to right center to bring home two to extend the lead 5-1.
Reynoso ran into some trouble in the sixth inning, giving up an RBI double, but remained composed by retiring the next two batters at ease. The sophomore cranked a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the seventh to seal the 5-2 victory.
Up Next: The Sagehens will travel to Clermont, Florida for the PFX games. They will open up their trip with a morning match against University of Suffolk on Wednesday, March 14 at 6 a.m. PST followed by a game against Amherst at 11 a.m. PST.
