CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball team got their first Southern California Intercollegiate Conference win against Redlands 46-40 on Saturday afternoon at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Redlands was led by Jade Cheldelin who led the Bulldogs with nine points and six rebounds.
The Sagehens came out ready to play as they took a 15-7 lead to start out the first quarter. The Bulldogs came back late in the first quarter to chip away at the lead and ended the first quarter down 15-13.
The second quarter was an evenly contested quarter as neither team could gain any ground on the score board as the Sagehens went into halftime with a 27-25 lead. Hummel has eight points and seven rebounds at the half.
The Bulldogs took their first lead of the game with 9:01 left in the third quarter after a Cheldelin free throw as Redlands led 28-27.
The Sagehens could not regain the lead in the quarter as the Bulldogs led 34-32 going into the fourth.
The Sagehens played smart basketball in the fourth as they regained the lead after a Brulee-Wills jump shot and played hard defense that forced the Bulldogs into tough scoring opportunities.
Pomona-Pitzer stayed solid at the free-throw line and forced a late turnover that sealed the game for the Sagehens and got their first SCIAC victory of the season.
The Sagehens next take the court on Tuesday, January 12th as they host Whittier at 7:30 p.m.
