CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball team dropped its third-straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game to Cal Lutheran 76-58 on Tuesday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
The Regals were led by Jessica Salottolo who tallied 17 points and dished out five assists. Also in double-digits for Cal Lutheran were Sofia Cruz and Haley Hodgson who tallied 10 points each.
The Regals took over the game in the paint in the first and second quarter as they out rebounded the Sagehens 23-15 and outscored Pomona-Pitzer 16-4 in the paint.
The Sagehens had a tough time finding the bottom of the net in the first half as they shot only 5-33 from the floor and missed on all five three-point attempts.
The Cal Lutheran bigs played a big part during the first half as the Regals went into the locker room with a 36-21 advantage.
The Sagehens regrouped at halftime and battled back in the third quarter as they cut the Cal Lutheran lead down to 38-28 after a Hummel layup with 7:08 left in the quarter, but the Regals responded and drove their lead up to 19 points with 2:41 left in the third.
Pomona-Pitzer could not gain any ground back in the fourth as the Cal Lutheran defense held strong and forced the Sagehens to turn the ball over and produced low percentage shot opportunities.
The Sagehens' offense struggled as it only connected on 31.7% of shots from the field as the Sagehens drop their third SCIAC game in a row.
The Sagehens continue SCIAC play as they next travel to Occidental on Tuesday, February 16th at 7:30 p.m.
