CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Opponent Caltech 74-65 on the Sagehens' senior day at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Before the start of the game, Pomona-Pitzer honored its three seniors that would be playing in their final game as a Sagehen. The senior class of Amelia Hummel, Juliah Shay Kim and McKenna Vanderkley were honored for all that they have done over the past four years.
The Beavers were led by Kate Lewis and Stephanie Wong who shared a team-high 14 points in the loss.
The first quarter was a close match up as both teams came out and put up good scoring numbers. The Sagehens got the upperhand as they ended the quarter on a 6-2 run and took a 19-15 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer began to pull away in the second quarter as the Sagehens outscored the Beavers 19-10 in the second quarter and went into the locker room with a 38-25 lead.
Caltech tried to claw its way back into the game as they began to slowly chip away at the Sagehens' lead and cut it to 11 points at 54-43 heading into the fourth.
Freshman Keilani Ikehara put in the dagger for the Sagehens as she connected on back-to-back three's to give Pomona-Pitzer a 67-53 lead with 5:36 remaining.
The lead was too big for the Beavers to overcome as they handed the Sagehens their eighth conference win of the season.
The Sagehens end their season with an 8-8 SCIAC record and went 11-14 overall.
