LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Occidental 67-56 on Wednesday night.
Season impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 1-21 overall and 1-13 in SCIAC play while Occidental improves to 13-11 overall and 9-6 in the conference this season.
The Tigers were led by Triana Anderson who tallied a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Shariah Green helped out with 12 points and Tala Ismail had 11.
The Tigers came out and jumped on top 8-2 to open up the first quarter but the Sagehens battled back with an 8-0 run and took their first lead of the game at 10-8 after a layup by Woo with 4:55 left in the first.
The Sagehens and Tigers went back and forth as the lead changed hands four times in the second quarter. Occidental closed out the half on a 13-4 run and held a slight 30-26 lead at the half.
The Tigers came out and took an early lead in the third quarter but the Sagehens played their best quarter of the game as they outscored the Tigers 16-12 and went into the fourth quarter all tied up at 42-42.
The two teams were even at 48-48 with 7:53 left to play but the Tigers found their offense late and went on a 10-0 run to extend the gap to 58-48 with 4:45 left.
The Sagehens could not bounce back after the Occidental fourth quarter run as they fell on the road to the Tigers, 67-56.
