CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's lacrosse team extended their winning streak to seven games to open up their season with a 16-8 win over Wheaton on Saturday night at the South Athletics Complex.
The Sagehens were led by senior Sarah Markowitz who tallied five goals in the win for the Sagehens.
Junior Gaby Fukumura got her seventh win of the season as she collected nine saves against the Lyons.
Wheaton tied the game at the 22:38 minute mark with a goal from Amy Livermore to make it 1-1 early in the first half.
The Sagehens closed the half out with six straight goals as Markowitz scored three goals, Long scored two and Douglass added her second goal of the game as Pomona-Pitzer held a 7-1 lead at the half.
Pomona-Pitzer came out and scored the first goal of the half as Markowitz tallied her fourth goal of the game off of a pass from McLaughlin to extend the lead to 8-1.
Wheaton scored their second goal of the game as Brooke Sabol scored off of a free position shot to cut the lead down to 8-2.
The Sagehens responded as Miller scored her first goal of the game off of a pass from sophomore Sallie Marx to extend the lead to 9-2.
Wheaton went on to score two-straight goals to cut the lead to 4-9 then the Sagehens responded with three in a row from Long, Miller and freshman Lilly Thomey to make the score 12-4.
Pomona-Pitzer scored four more goals in the half coming from senior Nicola Ying Fry, Long Markowitz and Miller as the Sagehens kept their undefeated season alive.
The Sagehens next host Kalamazoo on Wednesday, March 23rd at 7:00 p.m. at the South Athletics Complex.
