REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Redlands 15-9 on Wednesday night at Farquhar Field.
Season impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 2-4 overall and now 1-3 in conference play while Redlands improves to 4-2 overall and an even 1-1 in SCIAC play this season.
The Sagehens were led by senior Rebecca Long who tallied her fifth hat trick this season with three goals. Junior Sallie Marx, sophomore Lilly Thomey and freshmen Sophie Hubbell, Sonia Olson, Christian Rowe, and Meridian Lee each chipped in with one goal each.
The Bulldogs were led by Sadie Pickering who had a game-high five goals in the win. Hanna Morford, Charly Walter, and Lacey Bjorndal all chipped in three goals apiece.
Redlands got off to a nice start as they held the advantage in the first half outscoring the Sagehens 9-3. The Bulldogs got started early as they five of the first six goals of the night and five-straight after Hubbell scored the first goal of the game for the Sagehens to tie the game at 1-1 with 23:38 left in the half.
After trailing 5-1, the Sagehens came back with two-straight goals by Long and Lee to cut the deficit down to just 5-3 but the Bulldogs ended the half with four unanswered goals to take a 9-3 lead at halftime.
Redlands came out in the second half and posted the first three goals until Thomey notched her only goal of the night with 22:07 left to go as the Sagehens trailed 12-4.
Pomona-Pitzer made a nice run late in the game as they scored four goals in a row to end the game from Marx, Long, Olson and Rowe but the Sagehens ran out of time to try to come back against Redlands and fell in their third SCIAC game of the season.
