REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse Team earned a major road victory over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent University of Redlands, defeating the Bulldogs 14-6. It was a lopsided battle as the Sagehens played a strong first half and refused to relinquish their lead for the entirety of the match.
Season Impact: The Sagehens improve to a 3-1 record overall and in SCIAC play while Redlands fall to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in the SCIAC.
Thomey opened up the scoring, just a minute and 20 seconds into the opening half off an assist from Sophie Hubbell. The two teams remained in a standstill for a while until 18:40 left in the half when the Bulldogs tied the game off a goal from Kelsey Ruhl. However, the Sagehens' offense found their momentum, marching down field and going on a huge 6-0 run for the rest of the half. Sarah Woo played a key role in the run, scoring two straight goals to put the Hens ahead 4-1. Thomey closed the half with a last second goal assisted by Woo to make it 7-1.
The Bulldogs came out firing at the start of the second half, scoring four straight to cut the deficit 7-5. The Sagehens' attack rediscovered its form and responded with an overwhelming run of their own. With 18:13 remaining, Lily Hermann started the second half offense with a free position goal to extend the lead 8-5 and spark a 7-0 run. Lilly Thomey kept the momentum going, following up with an unassisted goal and later finding Sophie Hubbell near the net to make it 10-5. Thomey capped her own run with a free position goal with 10:25 left. Following a goal by Sophia Silane, Marx capped the rally with back-to-back goals to make it 14-5. Charly Walter cut the Bulldogs' scoring drought with an assisted goal with 2:28 remaining in the game, but the Hens closed it out to secure the 14-6 victory.
