CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team fell to non-conference opponent Rhodes 9-6 on Saturday night at the South Athletics Complex.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 3-2 overall and remain at 3-1 in SCIAC play.
On a rainy day in Southern California, scoring was at a premium for the Sagehens against the Lynx. Rhodes got on the scoreboard first as they notched the first three goals of the night to take a 3-0 lead with 12:47 left in the first half.
Olson got the Sagehens going in the first half with a goal at the 12-minute mark but the Lynx came back with back-to-back goals to push the lead to 5-1. Kate Immergluck notched the second goal of the half for Pomona-Pitzer but Rhodes ended the half with a goal to hold a 6-2 lead at halftime.
The offense fared much better for the Sagehens in the second half as they outscored Rhodes 4-3.
The Lynx and Sagehens traded goals to open up with the second half with Sal Marx getting on the board for the Sagehens to keep the score at 7-3.
After another Rhodes goal, Pomona-Pitzer scored back-to-back goals for the first time in the game with Olson and Thomey finding the back of the net to cut the lead down to just three goals at 8-5 with 3:22 remaining.
The Sagehens kept it close late but the first half lead by the Lynx was enough to hold off the Sagehens at home as they fell 9-6.
